House Without a Key by Earl Derr Biggers(illustrated Edition)

This book is a murder mystery set in Honolulu, Hawaii. It introduces the Chinese police detective, Charlie Chan. The novel also shows the effect of the island's relaxed atmosphere and balmy climate on the very conventional Bostonian John Quincy Winterslip, who assists Charlie in investigating the murder of Dan Winterslip, a rich resident of Hawaii with a rather dubious past. Other characters are Dan's vivacious daughter, his handsome lawyer, his resentful brother, his spinster cousin, the proprietor of a run-down beach hotel and his beautiful daughter, an ex-chorus girl and her male friend, and a captain of the British Admiralty.
