Birds

"The original text (Oiseaux, 1962) was written to accompany a series of bird lithographs by George Braque ... Robert Fitzgerald's version of Birds ... has long been out of print ... Working closely with Perse, Fitzgerald was scrupulous and literal; while the present version, risking paraphrase, tries to find a more idiomatic mode without sacrificing the often incantatory tone characteristic of this extraordinary author"--Translator's note.
