Edmund White is a patriarch of gay American literature. A Boy's Own Story is the first of his trio of autobiographical novels (followed by The Beautiful Room Is Empty and The Farewell Symphony).
It begins with experiments and realizations of adolescence and proceeds through his firsthand account of the Stonewall uprising.
